“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.”

Feta Fritters & Couscous
Monday 20th July 2020
Last Friday I took my girls to a PYP Graduation picnic where my eldest celebrated the end of her Primary years with her friends. We were home late and so this was put on the back burner but kicked off our week instead. Jamie Oliver’s Rainbow Salad Sesame Feta Fritters. This is in the Save with Jamie cookbook on page 24.

Chicken Skewers
Tuesday 21st July 2020
These chicken skewers are best marinated overnight but can be left for a few hours. They have that lovely sweet/spicy balance of flavours and go well with a fresh green salad.

Smoke Salmon, Potato and Asparagus Salad
Wednesday 22nd July 2020
This week promises to be warm and so I have planned a lovely smoked salmon salad. It will be nice and light with the lovely new potatoes – epitmonising the taste of summer.

Prawn Linguini
Thursday 23rd July 2020
Again keeping it light but I have a hankering for prawn linguini. I also found a great fish mongers not far from me and so plan to pick up some large prawns to grill and add to the top.

Bangers ‘n’ Mash
Friday 24th July 2020
Requested by the kids – they are craving something kid friendly and simple. Who am I to argue.

Krishna Vila
Saturday 25th July 2020
Our poor vegetarian friends often join us in our favourite bars and restaurants and they have great atmosphers but do not really cater for vegaterians and so this week we are putting them first. Which is no hardship as this restaurant serves amazing food.

Chicken Pie
Sunday 26th July 2020
Whereas the kids wanted a simple bangers and mash for Friday I also want a taste of the traditional and am hankering after pie. The Dutch don’t really do pie and it is something I miss. Afterall we came here from Denby Dale which is know as the Pie Village of Yorkshire. My mouth is already watering at the thought of a flaky pastry crust… just heavenly!

Something a little special…

I have bananas to use up this week and so on Sunday made Mary Berry’s Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. The first loaf lasted half an hour and did not have time to cool. I made a second loaf Tuesday after an early morning walk and the smell got my girls out of bed and on the hunt…
